Gov. Jennifer Granholm today announced the appointment of Andrew Levin as acting director of the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.

Levin will replace director Stanley Pruss who is retiring effective July 23.

Levin has been the deputy director of DELEG since February 2007. He currently oversees the Bureau of Workforce Transformation, Michigan Commission for the

Blind, Commission on Disability Concerns, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Labor Market & Strategic Initiatives and the Bureau of Employment Relations.

He was also appointed as the state's first chief workforce officer by Granholm in October.

Levin led the efforts to create programs within the No Worker Left Behind initiative, such as the Michigan's Green Jobs Initiative and establish the Academy

for Green Mobility.

Prior to joining DELEG in 2007, Levin was on several presidential commissions, including the Future of Worker-Management Relations. He also worked for the

U.S. Department of Labor and the national AFL-CIO.

“Because of his workforce training and green jobs experience, Andy has developed partnerships within the department that will ensure a seamless transition

as we forge ahead with workforce and economic development efforts,” Pruss said. “We are fortunate to have someone with Andy's extensive labor, business

and energy background to help lead the way.”

Levin earned his bachelor's degree form Williams College in Williamston, Mass., a master's degree in Asian languages and cultures from the University of

Michigan, and his law degree from Harvard Law School.
