[nfbmi-talk] Minutes, December 15 Board Meeting

Hi Again,

The details are important and I'm getting a bit confused here.

But this is again what I recollect and should be in the recordings....

The Board approved $1,000 to the cost of rooms and delegated you "JJ" to
handle things.

Then there was a second motion again secondended but not actually formally
approved to expend $5000 for a women's room and $5000 for a men's room.

There was a lot of discussion but not a formal vote to my recollection on
this issue.

Regardless, as per other expenses it was left to individuals to cover their
costs, like transporatation, and food, lodging above and beyond the approved
ammount etc.

As an aside I think that NFB MI would love to cover the whole thing for
everyone but it simply doesn't have the money.

As an additional aside when I was a bit more wealthy so-to-speak or at least
could budget my SSDI I personally paid for my own transportation, meals, and
lodging at several Washington Seminars in the late nineties.

That was in spite of being relatively poor and in spite of being an
executive officer of the affiliate at the time.

I'm not knocking any subsidy to any member at all here or trying to portray
myself as some sort of hero or something. But I did what I did as a
contribution to the effort over all.

In fact during several state affiliate conventions I did not take any perks
for hotel, or transport, etc. either.

I just didn't do that sort of thing.

Today I cannot afford to pay anything, let alone can I afford to contribute
substantial sums of monies to these efforts.

I just cannot do so. The trough is dry.

Thus I do not go to these events as I cannot pay my "fair share".

Again not whining or anything else here. But pointing out personal facts and
considerations of the organization over all.

We are as an organization "fiducionaries".

I don't have all the details and don't care for them either, but at some
points in time persons must take some sort of responsabilities for their own
activities me thinks.

Times are lean.

It is hard I know.

But, the organization can only fund from what it has in hand.

Please, please, please, don't take any of these comments out of context. I'm
not knocking Elizabeth for asking the questions. And I'm not knocking JJ for
his efforts. And I'm not knocking the board for its actions or anyone.

I'm just saying here that times are tough and we might just have to bite a
personal bullet here or there or go without.

Darn it if ginal Message -----
