Say, could they spare a few sheckels to make “the People’s House” fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act which have been required for now more than twenty three years like say putting required raised character and Braille signage on every permanent room including just exactly what those rooms say to sighted people?

State historic designation sought for Capitol to keep up improvements By Kathleen Gray Detroit Free Press Lansing Bureau The state Capitol and its grounds

would be designated a state historic site and $3 million would be dedicated to its renovation under a package of bills approved by the Senate Government

Operations committee Tuesday. The Capitol is already a national historic site, but the state designation and the creation of the State Capitol Commission

would allow the state to establish funds to maintain and renovate the building. The $3 million would come from tobacco tax revenues that are now going

into the general fund. "About six months ago, a gentleman defaced the Capitol by spray painting on some pillars and we had no money in the budget to clean

it up," said state Sen. Roger Kahn, R-Saginaw Township, who sponsored the bill. "AT&T ended up paying for it and I think they ponied up about $40,000.

For the first time in 22 years, the state replaced the carpeting and made technological improvements in the Senate and House chambers earlier this year

at a cost of about $370,000. Another $950,000 was spent on roof repairs. The bills passed unanimously in committee and now move to the full Senate for

consideration.
