Hello,

Here is a concise and informative newsletter about activities and events regarding disability. I certainly do not necessarily endorse everything in the newsletter, but, I think there are some interesting and relevant listings of interest to blind folks.

Warmest Regards,

Fred

Plain Text: the University of Michigan Council for Disability Concerns (CfDC) Weekly Newsletter

            Week of April 13, 2020

Announcements

* In response to the poverty of broadly-disseminated resources for the disability community concerning the corona virus outbreak, members of our Council have collected a comprehensive <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1euaimf8UCEhzkpaLyPdGZLK5qqzfjNyvShMrmzJhdgs/edit#heading=h.ya1ny9esjegj> list of COVID-19 resources by and for the disability community, which is now published to our CfDC webpage <https://cfdc.umich.edu/projects> .

* The Neubacher Award description and criteria <https://hr.umich.edu/working-u-m/awards-recognition/james-t-neubacher-award> has been slightly revised and updated in response to feedback from disability communities. The 2020 award season is currently open and nominations are being accepted; however, in light of the outbreak, there is no closing date at the moment.

* The CfDC is looking for volunteers to join the Disability Community month planning committee! Since the Council now has a paid assistant to take on most of the logistics, serving on the committee will be a much lower time commitment than in the past. Planning meetings will take place monthly starting in late February, with more activity to occur in September and October. If you are interested, please email cfdc-admins at umich.edu <mailto:cfdc-admins at umich.edu> .

* We are also recruiting volunteers for the Neubacher award committee. This group is the decision-making body who sorts nominations for the Neubacher award and eventually selects the winner and certificates of appreciation from among them. Most of the work will take place during May - August. The same note about time commitment as a barrier in the past applies to the composition of this committee--if you are interested or have questions, please email cfdc-admins at umich.edu <mailto:cfdc-admins at umich.edu> .
