Hello, again.

There is one more source of info--perhaps the most accessible of
all--that Americans who are blind or of low vision can depend on for
accurate information from diverse sources: NFB-NEWSLINE®. This is
especially effective for those who want to go online using connected
mobile devices such as a smartphone or tablet, or for those who use a
blindness-specific notetaker or DAISY reader to access information.

I happen to be a member of the NFB-NEWSLINE® committee applying to the
State of Indiana. If you try to subscribe and run into problems and
cannot get a response due to coronavirus disruption, please contact me
and I will hook you up with an appropriate resource to help get you
onboard with this service. You do not have to be a member of the
National Federation of the Blind to subscribe. Phone me at
(574)386-8868.

For those of us who have a disabling condition that qualifies for
membership in the Braille and Audio Reading Download [a.k.a. BARD or
Talking Books] program sponsored by the Library of Congress, you also
likely would qualify to subscribe to NFB-NEWSLINE®. It gives you
up-to-the-minute access to more than 400 newspapers, magazines, and
publications, some of which are particular to your town or region and
some of which will have very current info about the coronavirus and
its consequences. Most important of all to persons who live on a
fixed income or who are not comfortable with high technology:
NFB-NEWSLINE® is free of charge to qualifying subscribers, and the
same access to all those publications is available in audio form,
using a touch tone telephone--even a land line that is not connected
to the Internet whatsoever.

Since my prior message was directed at a wide variety of people living
throughout Indiana and Michigan, some of whom are not blind, I did not
mention NFB-NEWSLINE®. While NFB-NEWSLINE® is offered through the
nation, subscriptions are handled separately for each state or
territory that subscribes corporately to the NFB-NEWSLINE® system.

If you live in the state of Indiana and wish to subscribe to
NFB-NEWSLINE®, phone toll free (855)963-6476 or by interacting with us
at http://nfbnewsline-in.org/.

If you live in Michigan, your best bet is to visit the national site
at http://nfbnewslineonline.org/signup.htm and download a sign-up
form, available in either Microsoft Word or in PDF.

Please see immediately below for a word about how to access info
specific to the coronavirus and the COVID-19 outbreak in NFB-NEWSLINE®
once you have been deemed eligible and once you have logged on.

Thank you. Stay well.

Warm regards,

Kane Brolin

Subject: Access Breaking News For COVID-19 Updates on NFB-NEWSLINE

In response to the current situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19),
the National Federation of the Blind has decided to provide
up-to-date information to all eligible subscribers of the service.

COVID-19 updates are available in the Breaking News Online category
of NFB-NEWSLINE. This information is being obtained by the system
searching the thirty-four publications in the Breaking News Online
category for "coronavirus" and displaying the results. This
information will also be available for those few states that are
currently not sponsored for the next sixty days starting Monday, March 16th.

Access the coronavirus COVID-19 information using the telephone by
pressing 5 from the main menu, then press 1 for the Breaking News
Online category, followed by pressing the 1 key which will bring you
to the virus information. If you are using the NFB-NEWSLINE Mobile
IOS app, look for the virus information under the "All Publications"
section. The content can be accessed with Braille devices such as
note-takers and refreshable Braille displays.

Thank you.
