2017 Walk for Independence

Walking Alone and Marching Together

Fellow Nebraskans,

Our 2017 Walk for Independence is swiftly marching around the corner. Spiff
up your walking shoes, amp up your Federation spirit, raise funds and
prepare to demonstrate our NFBN pride as we walk in solidarity.

Information about this year's Walk is as follows:

*	When: Saturday, May 20, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
*	Where:., , St. Mark's, 1309 R St., Lincoln, NE
*	Why: To raise funds supporting the efforts of NFBN, and
demonstrating the abilities of blind Nebraskans.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. There's a $30 registration fee for any
walkers not turning in collected funds. Breakfast will be provided, free of
charge. The Walk will begin at 10 a.m. You do not have to walk to
participate.

Our route will circle the downtown area, passing the capitol along the UNL
campus. We will have lots of exposure to people along the route. Walkers
will have the option to walk 1 mile alone or circle around for 2 or 4 miles.
It depends on how far you want to walk. More details about the route will be
provided during registration. Transportation will be available if any
walkers need to be picked up and taken back to headquarters.

Lunch will be served after the walk. Hyvee will cater hamburgers and hotdogs
along with baked beans, potato salad, chips and a drink. The cost is $10.
Please pay for lunch during registration

A dessert bake-off will fill the bellies of our judges, Shane Buresh, Ross
Pollpeter and Jeremy Richey, our first men of the affiliate, will determine
who has the tastiest treats. Bring your best dessert to enter in our dessert
competition. Brownies, bars, cakes, cookies- our judges will taste it all.

Please email Jamie Richey if you plan to have the catered lunch so we have
an idea of how many to expect. Jamie's email is Jamie.richey16 at gmail.com
<mailto:Jamie.richey16 at gmail.com> . Remember, all collected funds must be
turned in during registration.

We will once again award prizes to the top three fundraisers. Get out and
start raising now. Prizes are as follows:

*	First place: NFBN convention registration fee and banquet ticket, or
cash equivalent
*	Second place: NFBN convention banquet ticket, or cash equivalent
*	Third place: NFBN convention registration fee, or cash equivalent

This year, donors can donate online via PayPal. Mike Hansen, our webmaster,
can create a personalized PayPal online donation link on the NFBN website if
you so choose. For more information and to set it up, contact Mike at (402)
890-4331, or email <mailto:mhansen4 at gmail.com> mhansen4 at gmail.com.

Walk for Independence is an important event for the affiliate. It's our
biggest fundraiser, with funds supporting various programs and efforts,
including our annual academic scholarship, Newsline, the Free White Cane
program and outreach activities, including several state-wide chapter
building events NFBN assists with. It's also an opportunity for outreach as
we demonstrate to the public that sight is not crucial for success. We are
living the lives we want, proving it through our collective actions.

Please join us for 2017 Walk for Independence.
