About the National Federation of the Blind
With more than 50,000 members, the National Federation of the Blind is the
largest and most influential membership organization of blind people in the
United States. The NFB improves blind peoples lives through advocacy,
education, research, technology, and programs encouraging independence and
self-confidence. It is the leading force in the blindness field today and
the voice of the nation's blind. In January 2004 the NFB opened the
National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute, the first research and

Subject: Legislative Alert - Quiet Car Call to Action
Fellow Federationists:
Congress will be returning to Washington for a lame duck session
beginning on Monday, November 17. We should take this opportunity to
continue our work on building cosponsor support for H.R. 5734, the
Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act of 2008. Adding cosponsor support to this
legislation will be extremely helpful when we reintroduce this legislation
early in the next Congress.
Currently 80 members of the House of Representatives are listed as
cosponsors of this legislation; I have included the list by state below this
message. We should start to make calls to our representatives on Monday,
November 10, and urge them to join as cosponsors of H.R. 5734. You should
continue to make calls until Congress adjourns.
Members of the House of Representatives can be added as cosponsors
of H.R. 5734 by contacting either Dana Grayson in Congressman Towns office,
or James Thomas in Congressman Stearns office; Democrats will most likely
contact Congressman Towns, and Republicans will generally contact
Congressman Stearns. You may be connected to your representative's office
by calling the Capitol switchboard at (866) 727-4894. If you believe that
your member of Congress is likely to join as a cosponsor of this
legislation, please contact me; I have listed my contact information below.
Thank you very much for all of your hard work on this issue.
