We are close but not quite there yet. The Senate has included the funding for Newsline in their budget. The House has not completed this part of their work yet. We need to urge our representatives to fund Newsline. Three key representatives are Michaux of Durham, Garu of Forsyth and Earle of Mecklenberg. Do what noone else can do for you. Contact your representative.

The National Federation of the Blind is very pleased that the NC Senate has included funding for the Accessible Electronic Information System for the Blind (Newsline) in the 2010 budget. The appropriation in the amount of $75,000 is in the budget of the Division of Services for the Blind under the Department of Health and Human Services.

We urge the NC House to follow the Senate by providing funding for Newsline in its version of the budget.

We applaud the willingness of the NC Legislature to continue to provide this accessible newspaper system to print disabled citizens of North Carolina. The Newsline system gives those who cannot read regular print access to timely information on a par with the sighted citizens of our state.
