Hey Alysha!

I don’t know if you remember me, but we met a few years back at some of the NFB of Fredericksburg events. I think you were brand new to Virginia. Maybe my intro would jog a memory?

Though Mike and Joe probably know more than they care to about me 😂 here we go...

I’m Jessica from Fredericksburg. I have two kids, a four-and-a-half year old little girl named Lila and an eleven-month-old little boy named Kyle. Before marriage and kids I worked for the government and lived in Fairfax County. My husband is fully sighted. I have frequently felt like a square peg in a round hole staying home with the kids, but I think I have found a rythum.

Congratulations and huge hugs on having your first! As I remember, you are such a warm and loving person, so I know you will be an amazing mama! 💖 Obviously you will encounter some unique challenges as a blind parent, many of which your spouse may not relate to. Like anything else in life though, there are great workarounds. Don’t be afraid to ask any questions here, we’ve all been there. If you haven’t heard of it, Mary Jo Hartle has started a new parenting pod cast called “Every Day Blind Parents.” Stayci Cirvainka and I shared our pregnancy hospital journeys in the first episode.

I look forward to reconnecting,
Jessica Reed
