Only three weeks to go before the next Brown Bag Book Club at noon on
December 8th at WTBBL!

The last book club choice for 2011, The Human Comedy by William Saroyan,
commemorates the 70th year since the U.S. entered World War II, and 30 years
since Saroyan's death.

In World War II-era Ithaca, California, the Macauley family's struggles and
dreams reflect those of America's second-generation immigrants.
Fourteen-year-old telegraph messenger Homer finds himself caught between
reality and illusion as he delivers messages of wartime death, while his
four-year-old brother Ulysses discovers the world in his own unique way.

WTBBL patrons can get The Human Comedy in braille (BR011931), cassette book
(RC010137), and downloadable digital book (DB010137). It is also available
in many local public and academic libraries.

The Human Comedy will also be the topic on the ERRS Talk Show on Wednesday,
December 7th at 6 p.m. Pacific Time (you can hear it as a live stream here:
http://www.wtbbl.org/ERRS.aspx).

Lastly, if you won't be able to read William Saroyan's The Human Comedy and
you still want to participate in the ERRS Talk Show at 6 p.m. on December
7th, or the Brown Bag Book Club at WTBBL on December 8th at noon, you can
watch The Human Comedy movie.

The book started out as a movie, but Saroyan was removed from the project,
and he wrote the book based on his movie story. The book came out before the
movie and was a best seller, and then Saroyan won an Academy Award for his
story for the movie!

The movie is about 90% true to the book, and is a big part of the book's
history, so as a last minute preparation for the book discussion, you can
see the movie. It was also Oscar-nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role
for Mickey Rooney, Best Black-and-White Cinematography, Best Director and
Best Picture, so it's worth seeing!

The movie can be found on DVD and video tape in many local public and
academic libraries. Also, by searching on "HmnCmdyA" on YouTube, the first
segment of the movie will be located. The movie is on auto-play, so the
film's full 120 minutes are continuous with a pause every 10 minutes or so
as the next section loads
