I don't know about all of that, I just know this one person
pretty well. She might be able to work somewhere else, but I
don't think she wants to. And they're not sorting nuts and
bolts. But yes, she should get minimum wage for what she does,
and yes, if she wants to go elsewhere to work, I think she
should, but as long as the work she is doing is meaningful to her
then I don't think it matters so much whether it's the Lighthouse
or a Boeing factory, or whatever. I think the thing that I would
say is that people should have choice about where they work (I
mean as much choice as any of us have). Lots of people whether
they're blind, sighted, tall, short, fat or skinny work in places
that they might not like the best, for lots of different reasons,
I suppose. In an ideal world people should be paid well for what
they do, and should do work that gives them a sense of purpose,
or where their passions are. but then there are some of us who
don't know what we want to do when we grow up. (Smile).
