Hello everyone,

We had another fruitful Greater Seattle Chapter meeting in June.We welcomed 4 new chapter members. They are; Michael Dickneite and Sarah Zachariah (2 of the Federation's Teachers of Tomorrow), Nam Chan (the wife of chapter member Robert Guyette), and Dori Kay Zitting. Our chapter is growing and on the move!

Mike Mello, Cindy Bennett, Marci Carpenter, James Janney and Mary Helen Scheiber gave a report on the Blind Cafe dinners which took place on June 8th and 9th. Almost 100 guests attended each night. The atmosphere was very positive. We had a chance to answer blindness-related questions. On the 2nd night some of us sat at tables with the sighted guests, which gave even more opportunity tor positive interaction. Our chapter will be receiving 10% of the proceeds. 50% of this money will go to our State Treasury. We hope to have a similar event next year.

Dr Sushil Oswal gave a brief report about the the symposium on Inclusive Publishing and E-Book Distribution which he had recently attended at the NFB's National Center in Baltimore. He told us about interesting discussions concerning accessible graphics. We were very proud to learn that Sushil had been awarded one of the first Hazel tenBroek Grants to do research on Dr. Jacobus tenBroek and the origins of disability law. (Postscript note; Dr Maurer made reference to this in his Presidential Report at this year's NFB National Convention. Check out the speech at www.nfb.org )

We currently have $1,387.43 in our chapter Treasury.

Upcoming events include;

*Picnic with the blind students in the YES Program - July 4th.

* Chapter Barbecue - July 28th at 4 p.m.

*AUGUST CHAPTER MEETING - Saturday, August 18th, 10:30 a.m., Seattle Public Library (1000 4th Avenue, Seattle), 4th floor, ROOM 1.

We will be participating in Shop For A Cause at the downtown Macy's store at the end of the summer. We are also looking into hosting a wine and cheese tasting fundraiser in the Fall.

We welcome anyone who wishes to join us at our meetings and events!

Respectfully,

Marci Carpenter
