>  Duties:
> The Digital Research and Development Coordinator will provide technical and organizational leadership in the specialized area of digital learning technology and work in concert with others in the design and implementation of a digital learning environment for blind and visually impaired students and will coordinate statewide/multi-state training in the use of these resources. In consultation with Washington State School for the Blind’s Technology Committee, department chairs, and national partners, the coordinator will work to develop long-term solutions to systemic problems of access to digital learning environments for the blind and visually impaired. An important part of this position will be the coordination of existing services and the development of new and dynamic classes and service options in partnership with university research facilities and other partners throughout the world.
> 
> MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
> Work with administration and staff in developing effective systems in digital learning and technology integration for the blind and visually impaired.
> Develop, implement and pilot new classes and services in a digital environment that meet the needs of blind and visually impaired students.
> Coordinate digital learning classes and workshops for both students and teachers of the visually impaired statewide and/or nationally.
> Provide leadership and maintain a strong working relationship with personnel involved with digital learning both on campus and nationally.
> Provide direction and training for teachers in the effective use of digital learning tools and class options for students both on and off campus.
> Consult and coordinate the development of digital systems that work consistently, ensuring that students with disabilities have the same access to technology as their peers by seeking out solutions that are accessible for all. 
> Act as liaison and maintain broad communication links with a wide variety of staff on all matters affecting digital learning.
> Develop and maintain the Digital Learning web page.
> Look for ways to improve/increase services for digital learning for students, parents, community members, consumer groups, and service providers.
> Coordinate, schedule, and manage synchronous and asynchronous tools used in digital learning classes to ensure adequate access and maximize resources.
> Provide advice and consultation for digital learning promotional materials.
> Provide advice and support for instructors new to digital learning.
> Work with administration in procurement of grants to assist in the support and growth of the digital learning environment for the blind and visually impaired.
> Coordinate WSSB’s efforts with research partners in securing and implementation of national and local grants.
> Represent WSSB as a part of the Digital Learning Department, Assistive Technology (AT), Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, and CANNect partnership.
> Represent WSSB in collaboration with major universities in new research.
> Work as project leader for integrating new technologies with existing technologies.
> Serve as management advisor to maintain on-going operation of the IT department.
> Analyze and assess industry direction and new capabilities of IT and AT as applies to the agency.
> Oversee the technology budget.
> Oversee the daily operations of the IT department.
> Assist staff with development of individual work plans that support department and agency goals, monitor work plans, and provide regular and ongoing feedback to staff.
> Provide leadership for the selection, development, management and evaluation of educational technologies as necessary.
> Manage the learning and curriculum management system for delivering the curriculum.
>  Qualifications:

> Relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
> Expertise in the area of digital and distance learning.
> Willingness to learn the effects of blindness and vision loss on education.
> Knowledge of digital learning tools such as teleconferencing and access technology ensuring that students with disabilities have the same access to technology as their peers by seeking out solutions that are accessible for all. 
> Understanding of both pedagogy and technology integration principles.
> Knowledge of comprehensive, integrated technology solutions that provide smart, interactive and connected learning environments.
> Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technology.
> Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
> Demonstrated organizational skills and initiative; ability to work well in a team environment.
> Demonstrated experience with student and adult learners. Preference will be given to those with experience working the blind and visually impaired.
> Demonstrated problem-solving attitude to approaching issues while exercising independent judgment and ethical decision-making with a minimum amount of supervision.
> Demonstrated ability to manage a budget.
> Strong understanding of IT services and its relationship to educational services.
> Demonstrated knowledge of current IT infrastructure to prepare for support of fast and reliable communications (internet capabilities, public connections, wireless access) and ensure security of the current IT environment.
> Ability to translate technological options into business terms and interact with executive management to create technology solutions to mission critical agency problems.
> Expected to be an active scholar, engaged in research and evaluation of educational technologies.
> Facilitate national coalition building within the field.
> Demonstrated ability in use of Microsoft products such as Office, Outlook, Excel, and social media.
> Preferred/Desired Education, Experience, and Competencies:
> Master’s degree in Curriculum Development – emphasis on digital learning.
> Teacher of the Visually Impaired – emphasis in accessible technology/universal design.
> Success in continuing implementation of digital learning program goals.
> Success in piloting new classes and services in a digital environment that meet the needs of blind and visually impaired students.
> Success in coordinating digital learning options and workshops for both students, parents, community members and those that provide services to blind and visually impaired students.
> Proven leadership and strong working relationships with personnel involved with digital learning.
> Development of grants and/or grant partnerships.
> Demonstrated teamwork with internal and external contacts.
> Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
> Demonstrated ability to supervise.
> Demonstrated ability in use of Microsoft products such as Sharepoint, Lync, Office 365, Yammer.
