Lauren, I'm quite behind so perhaps someone has answered your 
question.  An ID cane is pretty small.  People sometimes carry 
them to identify themselves as blind, but don't really use them 
as a mobility aid, though I have heard that some dog users will 
have them with them sometimes use when doing work in an area 
where there's no sidewalk.  They're very lightweight, and when 
used in this manner you can check to make sure, for example, that 
your dog is not guiding you out into the middle of the street, 
instead of along the edge.  Hope this helps.    Debby
