Hi all!

Well, I never heard of braille literacy day before seeing this, but as things now stand, I don't know what I'll be doing that day, so can't imagine what my own options for celebrating it may be, but perhaps I will score lunch at Crackerbarrel somewhere, because last time I was there, they had a braille menu. Suggestions are of course, welcome.

With a closing date of Friday 31 August 2018 we're running two competitions to celebrate Braille Literacy Day on 7 September.

For Primary and Intermediate aged students: Make up a name for the New Zealand Braille Literacy Kiwi Mascot and collage a picture of it (A4 size). Post the artwork to Gloria Edwards, BLENNZ, Private Bag 801, Manurewa, Auckland 2243.

For individuals or groups of Secondary School or BLENNZ Transition students: Write a jingle for the BANZAT literacy competition using one/some or all of the following themes: Braille, Literacy, Conservation or Kiwi. Email your jingle to wendy.richards at blennz.school.nz

For good resources to help you with these competitions and to learn about the prizes, read the well-structured PDF at http://www.banzat.org.nz/documents/2018BrailleDayActivities.pdf. It contains some screen reader friendly SimBraille which can be printed without having to install a SimBraille font.
