Here are my notes from our discussion on managing the costs of vet care.

Guide Dogs for the Blind, Guiding Eyes, and The Seeing Eye can help
graduates with emergencies, approved on a case-by-case basis.

AMC in New York City gives free care for service animals. Other vets may
offer a discount for a service animal. People can ask, but it doesn't
happen as often as it used to.

Care Credit is like a credit card. You get a year to pay off a loan without
interest.

pet insurance: Spot was top-rated in a newspaper story. Trupanion is the
company The Seeing Eye gives graduates contact information for. Pet
insurance does not cover routine checkups and meds. It's mostly for
accidents and serious illness. Check the policy carefully before you buy.

Healthcare savings: Budget for vet care to make sure you always have enough
money in the bank to cover vet costs, even emergencies or serious illness.

Shop around for price for dentistry and similar important but non-emergency
care.

You can buy meds from petshed.com half-price, no prescription required.
Petshed.com is based in Singapore, but has brand-name meds.
