Hello all:

My name is Humberto Avila. I am not into PHD work yet, nor am I into even
bachelor work yet just like Arielle and Katie. I am just fresh. I will be a
sophomore in college and I go to the Yakima Valley Community College. I am
not doing social science for my major, however, I'm interested to learn from
you about any statistics software and access barriers that will face my way
in the future, as I prepare and take more classes at college level and as I
get into obtaining a major. I am going to be a teacher of the blind in
specialties in assistive technology and devices, but any of these
discussions that you bring up will be interesting especially the ones
dealing with how research is done about helping people with disabilities,
how blind people can be more integrated and any other stats about blind
folks and their personal views as well as views they have developed from
others' misperceptions. I will learn so much, and I'll be prepared to do
some major advocacy when the time comes.

Have a good night and hope to talk soon. See you online!

Hi, Arielle and all,

My name is Katie Wang, and I'm a doctoral student in Social
Psychology at Yale University. I'm planning to graduate in Spring 2014
and will be working on my dissertation for the next two years. My
research broadly focuses on the experience of stigma from the targets'
perspective; in particular, I'm interested in how women and minorities
cope with prejudice and discrimination and how their interpretations
of such negative experiences affect their psychological well-being.
Like arielle, I'm also interested in the barriers faced by people with
disabilities and have been pursuing this topic as a secondary line of
research. Almost all of my research so far has utilized quantitative
methods, so I have had quite a bit of experience in conducting
statistical data analyses (primarily using SPSS). I'm really excited
about this new discussion forum and look forward to having many
informative conversations with all of you!

Best,
Katie
