Hi Tracy,

I am glad you joined the list. My daughter's name is Tracy too.

I lived in Ramsey NJ when I was a kid and there were farms all around us
back in the 1950s. I also lived in New Hampshire before moving to Florida.
I know our growing season up in NH was May 15 to October 15. It is strange
being in a place where you plant in February!

Living on a farm is a lifelong dream come true for me. This place was empty
for over four years so we have a lot to claim back from neglect.

I understand your concern for being isolated and not being able to drive.
My husband drives but I have often thought of what would happen if he was no
longer able to drive. I would hate to leave here.

I shop a lot online not only because it is convenient but because you can
find things online you can't find in the stores. We just signed up for
Amazon Prime which gives you free two day shipping and you don't pay sales
tax.

Have you ever heard of Shwands? They are a food delivery store that even
offers their catalog in large print and Braille to cater to blind customers.
They sell just about everything and the quality is high. It is a bit more
then at the store but6 worth it. You don't have to sign a contract or
anything, they just show up on your schedule. Their website is:
http://www.schwans.com/

I also love the Dollar General store for the lowest prices on everything
except fresh meat and vegetables. They offer free shipping and sales on
purchases over $25.

I figure that we will grow our own vegetables and can, freeze and dehydrate
them. We have our own eggs, chickens and I have talked about getting a
steer for higher quality beef then you can buy in the store.

We also have great neighbors and although I would never depend on them for
shopping or transportation, they are here in emergencies etc.

I am glad you joined the list.

JODY
