You might be entertained by the following messages in reply to mine relating the small success I
have had, at long last, in getting some veggie seeds to germinate.

well congratulations Jewel. I would never have tried to plant
seeds for cauli broccolli or cabbage s always bought the small
plants well started, , not sure why as grow beans and carrots
radishes etc from seed so good on you protect them well I often
put a , dirty word but plastic bottl cut in half over top of the
plant ans either snails for birds eat the young plans. Just
remember to take it off when rains so can be watered. Just a
suggestion. good on you.

As you may have deduced from my posts on recycling, that is what I do wherever I can.
I have a little hothouse/germinating unit that I made from a small defunct microwave oven.
I began by turning it over 90 degrees so that the back was the bottom, and the door, the top.
Next: I took the door out, just leaving the frame and replaced it, the door, with two little slides
that had, formerly, been the window of a sandwich and cake display cabinet in a cafe.
I left about a 2 inch gap between the slides that, no longer slid, and drilled some holes through
them so that Gaia's bounty,in the form of rain:, bounty which has got a little out of hand recently
on the West Coast: and shows no sign, at present, of returning to a gentle shower rather than an
absolute torrent, could get through.
I drilled holes in the bottom so that the excess bounty would drain away.

did you take the cakes as well?

from Jewel: Damn it to hell and back, Petrus! That was supposed to be a secret and now all the
hungry caterpillars: wait a bit, caterpillars doesn't sound right! something beginning with c I
think but don't bet the ranch on it: who were at that cafe will know why the menu was hastily
rewritten and gave them two options: to whit: what was left of last week's bread, or nothing: the
butter having been purloined by the mannageress' dog!
