Daniella,

The next time you are riding, ask them to clean the hoof and let you feel it. You should never be stopped from caring for the horse! It is totally possible. Pick a very calm horse and start with the front feet. You can touch the bottom of the hoof no problem. You'll be able to feel the grooves that you clean in.

Also, get someone to draw a print V on your hand. You'll have a better idea what to feel for.

You will very quickly get the hang of this. Insist on being allowed to try! I really can't understand why someone would have trouble teaching you this. If the horse is calm and if it is good about feet there is no problem.

Also, the more time you can spend with the horse on your own the better. The more people hover and do things the less you will learn because a lot of what you need here is learning through muscle memory which can only happen through repitition. The right horse is not going to mind mistakes. They sense intention and they know.

Hope this helps. Get in there and get durty! It's good for you!
