Good evening everyone,
The recent rains in San Antonio caused roads to be closed
and for flooding to occur. This has effected Waymo's operations in San
Antonio. The situation with the Waymo San Antonio service pause is explained
below:
Hello Peter! As a Waymo representative, I appreciate your enthusiasm to get
riding. Safety is our north star, and we want to make sure every
journey-whether it's a quick trip to the San Antonio International Airport
or a night out downtown-is a smooth one.
Here is the latest update on our operations in the Alamo City:
San Antonio Service Pause
On Monday, April 20, 2026, we temporarily paused all operations in San
Antonio. This decision was made following a period of intense rain-over 4
inches in a single day-which led to significant flash flooding. One of our
unoccupied vehicles was unfortunately swept into an active waterway during
these conditions.
* Status: We are currently coordinating with local authorities to
safely recover the vehicle and are monitoring road conditions across the
city.
* Resumption: Service will resume as soon as it is safe to do so. We
are conducting thorough reviews of the incident to ensure our fleet is
better prepared for San Antonio's unique weather patterns and drainage
challenges. Keep an eye on your Waymo app; it will notify you the moment the
"Pause" is lifted.
Expansion to Stone Oak
We know there is a lot of demand in the Stone Oak area, and we are eager to
bring Waymo One to your neighborhood!
* Current Geofence: Following our launch in February, we recently
expanded in March to include 24/7 service to and from San Antonio
International Airport (SAT).
* Timeline for Stone Oak: While we haven't announced a specific date
for the Stone Oak geofence expansion yet, we are scaling rapidly. Our goal
is to reach "all corners" of our launch markets by the end of 2026. Given
Stone Oak's location and infrastructure, it is a high-priority area for our
next phase of growth.
We can't wait to have you and Mary on board for a ride soon! Please stay
tuned to your app for the "green light" to ride again.
Peter Donahue
