[AutonomousVehicles] Hundreds of new Waymo Vehicles spotted at facility

In mid-August 2026, aerial photos and tracking reports circulated across EV
publications and community forums showing a major ramp-up of the Waymo Ojai
robotaxi fleet at Waymo’s integration and manufacturing facility in Mesa,
Arizona.

WHAT WAS SHOWN AT THE ARIZONA FACILITY

Massive Fleet Staging:
Community aerial tracking documented 953 Ojai robotaxis at the
239,000-square-foot Mesa facility, which is operated in partnership with
Magna. That was up from roughly 500 vehicles earlier in the summer.

Deployment Readiness:
Approximately 684 of those vehicles appeared to be fully outfitted with
Waymo’s 6th-generation autonomous driving hardware, including LiDAR, radar,
and external camera systems, and staged for commercial deployment.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 Sightings:
The same aerial photos also showed the first batch of fully converted
Hyundai IONIQ 5 robotaxis at the facility alongside the growing Ojai fleet.

BACKGROUND ON THE WAYMO OJAI

Platform:
The Ojai is a purpose-built robotaxi developed for Waymo by Zeekr, a
Geely-owned automaker, using the SEA-M electric vehicle platform.

6th-Generation Waymo Driver:
The Ojai introduces Waymo’s 6th-generation autonomous driving system. The
new hardware configuration reduces the overall sensor count by more than
40% while reportedly using:

13 cameras
4 LiDAR sensors
6 radar units

The system also incorporates heated sensor-cleaning technology and other
features designed to improve operation in a wider range of weather
conditions.

Assembly and Integration:
The base vehicles are manufactured in Ningbo, China, and shipped to Mesa,
Arizona. At the Mesa facility, Magna and Waymo complete installation,
integration, testing, and validation of Waymo’s autonomous driving hardware
and software before the vehicles are prepared for deployment.
