*SoftBank* has led a $200 million Series A funding round for *Gravis
Robotics*, valuing the *ETH Zurich* spin-out at approximately $1 billion.
Gravis Robotics develops a hardware-software retrofit system designed to
transform existing heavy machinery from manufacturers such as *Caterpillar*,
*Komatsu*, and *John Deere* into autonomous machines.
The hosts describe this as potentially more of a “software-multiple”
opportunity than a traditional hardware business.
Instead of requiring operators to replace entire fleets, Gravis could allow
companies to add autonomous capabilities to an estimated $1 trillion
installed base of existing heavy equipment.
