Hi, Deb,
Colorado Medicade did pay for my power chair, but the best part about it all was they were willing to have me do an automative survey to help me get it.
The many questions I was asked how my life is daily, how much pain I'm in, am I able to get out to see friends or go anywhere and how much do I feel when I get depressed.
I answered all of them carefully as the truth was I was very depressed when being in a lot of pain and not being able to go anywhere.
Is there an Advocacy organization in your area that you can partner up with?
Colorado Medicade has one Called Colorado Alliance Health for Independence (CAHI)
My care cordinator is Michelle Henderson who is glad to step in and help out when I feel the need.
If you do have a Disability Rights office, that would be another good resource along with a Disability Coalision or Legal Aid Center.
I wish I could have been more of help, but I will be praying that you will be able to get somewhere.
If or when you are able to get your new power chair, would you be able to get a case opened with Vocational Rehab to see if they have any O&M instructors who have experienced working with a wheelchair client?
Please keep us posted on how your situation goes along with progress.
