Hello, Everyone,

I just recently joined the Blind-Rollers list. I live in New Jersey with my
husband and our two rescue dogs (daughters) Rosa and Molly and our two boys
with feathers Sidney and Callie. We do not have any two-legged kids.

I lost my right leg below the knee almost five years ago due to poor
circulation from diabetes. I had been so very active until my
amputation-playing softball and basketball when I had my sight and walking
miles and miles with my dog guides Lana, Pastel and Hope after I lost my
sight. I lost my very last dog guide two years ago, and it hurt so, so bad.
It was like being stabbed with a knife. I use a manual wheelchair and never
have used a motorized one. Oh, and I am 48 years old a week ago last
Wednesday. As a matter of fact, I am off to a birthday party my girlfriend
is giving me for my birthday.

I saw these emails about dogs and being able to pick up after them, etc. Do
any of you, who are wheelchair bound, have dog guides, where did you get
them, how do you use them and pick up after them? Because I've lost my
independence, I don't know if I'll ever get over that hump.

I've had many medical trials throughout my life because of diabetes; and
because God has given me the grace and strength to get over them, I have
been able to move forward, adapt, and even go to work. There are some
things though that I used to love to do but cannot figure out how to do them
now that I am in a wheelchair. I'm hoping you can help me figure it out.

I used to love to cook and bake. We don't quite have the money to
completely renovate the kitchen so everything is at my level. Are there any
of you who cook and bake; and if so, how do you manage it? Also, please.
Anyone of you whom have a dog guide, how does that work, and where were you
able to go for a dog?

Thanks for any information you can offer. Have an awesome day!!
