Thanks Becky,
I sure hope this isn't permanent, so I don't want to take rugs out. I was
thinking of the stuff used in offices for chairs. I'll check it out for
cost.
Thanks,
Bernice

My neighbor who uses a walker. He is frail, decided to take out pathways in
his home and put in something hard. She said, his wife, it is white
something. Anyway, from the front door where he comes in the house to the
kitchen where he eats is whatever they lay down, not rug. Then from the
kitchen to where he watches TV and sleeps is the same stuff. I think though
his bedroom has rug of some sort. But that path goes by the powder room,
which he uses. She has grab bars in that room so his walker is parked
outside. in the hallway.

What about the hard plastic with grabbers people use in offices to make a
path. If it can handle office chairs it surely will handle a wheelchair. I
still like the path idea, if you can swing it financially. Taking out
portions of the rug since you own your home. We have low pile carpet with a
felt pad. It works fine to wheel me around on my own, with two questionable
shoulders.

I also have plastic end strips on my walls. Sorry can't see and sometimes my
judging turns is off.

Welcome Bernice, warm hugs.

Becky full of ideas or something, giggle.

Hello and welcome to blind rollers. Personally it is hard to get air tires
any more because people are reluctant to give people chairs with them
because of the danger of a flat and I don't think it would make a lot of
difference. There plastic carpet covers they use like when they would show
houses but the weight of the chair still tends to sink and be somewhat
harder to wheel on carpet but a lot of it depends on the tcarpet thickness.
I've wheeled on the indoor/ourdoor carpeting without a problem and gotten
stuck on shag.

Subject: [Blind-Rollers] I have carpet

Good afternoon,

I just joined this list. I am 72 and have osteoporosis and ankylosing
spondylitis which means I break easily. I am trying to find ways to help
myself until I heal from a vertebra break and herniated disk. I want to use
a wheelchair in my house, but I have carpeting everywhere except my kitchen
and bathrooms. I have two questions.

Do nematic wheels roll better on carpeting than the hard rubber wheels?

Second, is there a material like heavy duty plastic carpet protectors that
would temporarily be put down to make it easier to roll over the rug?

Because of my specific conditions, unfortunately, this probably won't be the
last time I will need to use a wheelchair.

Thank you for any information you can provide.
