[blindkid] PSAT

I'm actually just researching this very issue for a book. The
College Board folks claim they will provide practice materials (older
versions of tests, which is what they provide to sighted students,
too) in both braille and large print for the SAT and PSAT "which is
usually 14 point font or 20 point font. If a student requires a
larger font size, we can create the larger font materials, and it
normally can take up to 6 weeks. " That was straight from them via
email. They say either the student or the school can request the materials.

They also say that the braille practice materials are transcribed by
the same transcribing service that prepares the actual test.. This
means that the kids will get experience with the actual format they
will see on the test.

Another lister said pay close attention to deadlines--this is very
true! The process is complicated. Talk to your guidance counselor
and/or test coordinator at the high school to make sure everything is
submitted in time for getting approval before the test date. Also,
stay on top of the situation, as they have probably not dealt with a
blind student's accommodations before.

I am waiting for answers from them (and also ACT) to a few more
questions and will post more when I get them.

Carol
