Yes, Barb is correct in her remembering.  However in Iowa it is not just the specials that the children can take.  Your child could take any core classes.  However, you are given a time you either take it or leave it for the class or classes that you want to be involved in.  The best thing to do if you have any questions is to find your states homeschool association and ask them any questions you have.
