[blindkid] PacMate or Braille Note?

I love my Braille note. they are pretty good about repairs, but they tend to
be done well. As for pack mates I have a lot of friends who ended up selling
their PM and getting a BN. The BN is easier to use in general. I don't learn
technology easily and I've taught myself most of the stuff I need or want to
know on the BN. Good luck in making your decision. I also have the new
apex's

every intellectual activity that our children engage in."

Dear Janice and Ari

It's a gamble. If the Braille Display fails it gets expensive. I paid, at
the fifth year, $1,600.00. I guess that if you are very disciplined you can
set the money away for a repair date. I decided to pay both software and
hardware contracts for my daughter. Usually you get a better deal when
buying the contracts at the time of purchase.

Here in California the BrailleNote is more popular and more people know
about them. My 17 year old daughter really likes her new APEX (we upgraded
from the previous mPower via a trade in program). My daughter had her
machine at 10 (like yours) and it has been one of the best investments I
have ever made, If you can go for the 40 cell one. You can use it for so
many things.

I am ordering one or the other for my 10 yr old daughter this week and was
taken back by the hefty PMA's for such an expensive machine. Both want about
$500 per year after the factory 1 yr warranty (I am surprised that the
companies don't feel a bit more confident about their products). Anyone are
to share how much maintenance they have encountered with either machine
after having them after a year?

Janice and Ari
