Hello:

You will need a scanner that has TWAIN interface software. For school use, I would recommend a flatbed scanner with a document feeder. The flatbed works for reading books. The document feeder will handle loose papers. The document feeder is an extra, but nice to have. I would suggest looking at the plustek Optic book scanner. It is designed to handle books. I have not dealt with a recent model of this device.
You likely want a fast scanner, so look at scanners targeted for businesses. Hope this helps. Always try before you buy or make sure you can return a product if it doesn't work. Hope this ehlps.

Regards,

Robert

Can anyone recommend a scanner compatible with Kurzweil software that would be good for home and college use? Thanks!
