[blindkid] Louisiana Center for the Blind Summer Program

I think that is a common occurrence that it take a while to adapt. I tried to
get my daughter to attend camps for years and I finally got her to go when she
was a around 16 and ended up loving it. She then said she wished she had done
it earlier. I think it's definitely harder on the parent than the child. If I
were to do it again, daughter now 20, I would have pushed her in her early
years. One thing I've learned is to take advantage of every opportunity to
expand their awareness.

It is very much a know your kid situation.

Hank went last summer when he was 11 (almost 12) and had finished 5th grade. It
was his first time at any kind of camp. He was DREADFULLY home sick the first
3-4 days. Broke my heart and if LA had been in driving distance I might just
have gone to get him. I'm not a particularly clingy mom either.

The good news is after those first few days he was perfectly fine and had a
fabulous time. When I went down to pick him up, one of the first things he asked
was "Can I come back next year?" I've already filled out his application for
this summer.
