After 20 years I finally came upon a solution to my daughter's inability to tie her shoes properly.  They are called Lock Laces, which are elastic with a mechanism that the laces feed through that you just have to squeeze to tighten.  My daughter loves them, and I bought a set for each of her shoes. They come in every color imaginable.  They are popular among triathletes, who can't afford to have their shoes become untied during competition.  I can't believe that no one has told me about this alternative after 20  years, and so I thought I better share in case there are others like me out there.

Here is a link to what they look like and how they work.
