Hi Debbie, so sorry I posted that to the list. I didn't mean to, but that happens sometimes with me when I get list posts!

Lydia

Dear Lydia,

These are all great ideas. Dealing with sorrow while at the same time
finding hope and joy is especially important. Please write to me off list
and let's think about this further.

Debbie

Hi Debbie,

I'd be interested in writing again.

I know we don't dwell on grief in the NFB, but there is this repeating
sorrow among parents of kids with several disabilities as they watch their
kids' friends as well as their other children move on in life, accomplishing
significant milestones. I could reflect on that in light of our motto, live
the life you want.

Or, I could write something more nuts and bolts about how we started a
social group for girls. Or, I could write about helping our daughter start
a very small business.

Are any of those something you want? I think the chronic sorrow is
important and really needs to be talked about more openly, especially within
the NFB POBC family of families.

I work at Hadley Institute now, designing curriculum, remotely from my home
in Michigan. It feels really good to be out of the university setting and
making real curriculum for real people!

Sincerely, Lydia Schuck

I'm beginning to plan the winter 2017 issue of Future Reflections, and I am
seeking articles about any aspect of parenting or teaching blind children,
from birth through the teen years and beyond. Personal stories , how-to
articles, adventures in advocacy, and dealing with public misconceptions are
just a few suggestions to get you thinking. Articles by parents or teachers
of blind children with additional exceptionalities are highly welcome. If
you have never written for publication before, this is a great opportunity.
Don't worry about submitting a piece that is polished and professional.
Write what you want to say, and we'll take it from there.

If you have ideas or questions, please contact me off list. I look forward
to hearing from you.

Debbie Stein
