Save the date for At the Corner of Law Enforcement and Animals: Co-Facilitated Dialogue on Law Enforcement and Dog Shootings
Dear colleague:
I do hope this finds you well; noting that, as part of the on-going conversation about or efforts in improving community relations with law enforcement, animals and disabilities must be kept in the conversation, not something that always occurs. Find thusly a "save the date" for a facilitated panel dialogue.
Indeed, persons with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to negative law enforcement interactions, including, most notably, people who have mental health disabilities. Even more so, if they have a service animal. Yet, structured dialogue can address concerns on both sides. In a continued effort to broker leaders together, including, fostering dialogue at the intersection of animals and dispute resolution, I want to provide an advance "save the date" for an interesting panel, which will be telephonically available; and, which will, as the Executive Board hopes, be published as a transcript in the next issue of the Mid-Atlantic Journal on Law and Public Policy: Animal and Disability Reporter.
In brief, the panel, composed of experts in law and mediation, will discuss situations escalating into police involved killings of animals and how dispute resolution should be applied, as par to the larger conversation on community policing, to improve this.
