[blindlaw] Tax Returns

I have not found any reliable alternatives to resolve this issue, other than human readers. I recommend finding a paid or volunteer reader and having them sign a release stating they will keep all client information confidential. You may be able to find a retired attorney or paralegal to assist, but legal expertise is not required. You could easily train a reader to skim documents and provide you with the information you need. Check with your state's radio reading service to see if they have any readers in mind, or post an ad locally or online. You may be able to find an undergraduate student who needs volunteer hours, and reading could count toward their requirement. Best of luck.

Subject: [blindlaw] Tax Returns

All,

I am doing an internship that involves, among other things, analyzing clients' tax returns. While the IRS has a lot of accessible forms that I am able to fill out, it's more difficult to read previous tax returns that are already complete. I have Kurzweil, but using OCR doesn't always work that well since it doesn't catch things like checked or unchecked boxes. Does anyone know of a solution besides obtaining a reader? We're having some trouble doing that at the moment.
