[Blindmath] Math Wiki

Good afternoon listers,

I once discussed with John Miller the establishment of an NFB Science
Division Web site one of whose components could be a wicki. Such a site
could be hosted on NFB Net where it would be under the direct control of the
NFB. Among NFB Net's available applications through Fantastico is a Wicki. I
installed it for the National Association of Blind Students so know how to
set wickis up.

The great thing about wikis is that they can be used to deliver
information on multiple subjects and can be configured to permit readers to
contribute their thoughts and ideas too. The use of software and hardware to
create and display math in an accessible manner is just one subject to be
included in a wiki.

Perhaps it's time to revisit the idea of an S&E Division Web site given
the increased activity in our science initiative and the need to create a
division home on the Internet.

The NCBYS Web Site was created as a clearing house of information on
resources related to STEM subjects. It does not share news related directly
to the S&E Division's activities. I see the creation of an S&E Division Web
site as complementary not competitive with the NCBYS Web Site as their
purposes would be different. It would even be possible to integrate
information on the nCBYS Web site with the S&E Division Site and the
federation's other Internet resources. These are my thoughts.

Welcome Richard. Your introduction reminds me that there was a discussion
recently about starting a wiki so that we could have a living and hopefully
very useful document about techniques. If somebody would set up that wiki I
would be happy to write up everything I know about math and graphics access
for it. There are experts on this list on Latex, various types of braille,
statistics, several applications that make math accessible, etc. A wiki
detailing all that information would be tremendously helpful.

This list is sponsored by NFB. Wonder if they could also sponsor a wiki?
It's possible to set up wikis all over the place, but to guarantee longevity
it would be good if NFB could take ownership.

Hello,

This is mainly just a short note to make certain that I am signed up
correctly.

I am a rretired engineer that lost my sight late in life and I am hoping to
learn some adaptive techniques for dealing with math using jaws.
