I therefore make my documents in notepad and use Winedt only as a tool to quickly compile and convert my files. When reading in Winedt, often parts of the text are not displayed. Refreshing the screen with insert+escape sometimes helps but only for a very short while. Refreshing the screen all the time is not very convenient.

Yes, I've had this problem in the past. It seems to have become much
better with the latest versions of jaws and winedt. I believe the
problem is that WinEdt does not provide any accessibility information
to screenreaders so jaws has to use video intercept to get any
information from it. This means that the performance with jaws can be
very variable depending on features such as your graphics card.
Someone should probably contact the WinEdt developers about this, but
I've never got round to it. Its probably worth adding that with NVDA, at least the last time I checked, winedt is not accessible at all.
