[Blindmath] Blindmath Digest, Vol 41, Issue 10

Hello Maria and listers,
I only have general recommendations for the AP statistics student.
The school should provide her a version of matlab from Mathworks. The program is a mainstream program and with it one can analyze a row or column of numbers from a matrix.
I recommend the student record class lectures for playback at a later time. Encourage the student to meet with the teacher outside of class time.
What would be most helpful is a committed assistant who would spend several hours a week working with the student. This assistant, either volunteer or paid, should be familiar with statistics and the use of a graphics calculator.
My best success finding tech savy assistants is by placing fliers on the inside of bathroom stalls at the local university.
I wish the student the best and encourage anyone to contact me off-list for suggestions and help.
I am blind and use statistics regularly in my paid position.
The problems the student are encountering are real and tough.
But if you love the field, they can be overcome.
My sighted brother struggled with the statistics requirement for his masters in psychology, so the course is a stumbling block that needs to be overcome to get a degree in many fields.
Very best,
John Miller

Hi Maria,

Could you describe which kind of questions is she having problems with?
For example, I remember that doing calculations in questions based on standard deviation was a little difficult because a big table had to be created to show step by step calculation and this table had several columns, so I generally couldn't follow along.
But I came up with a rough solution.

Regards
Roopakshi from India
