Hello listers. I have been asked to post an invitation to attend the
ICCHP-SU workshop to be held at Telc in the Czech Republic from July 29 to
August 4 of this year. Student participants pay a fee of 100 Euros
(approximately US$140) that covers accommodation, meals, the workshop, and
special services such as navigation assistance in the workshop for blind
people. A number of scholarships are available to cover that 100 Euros, but
participants must cover their own travel costs to/from the workshop gateway
cities (Prague or Vienna). I strongly encourage blind European students to
consider attending this workshop. Others are more than welcome, but travel
costs may be daunting. Flights from the US to Prague currently cost up to
$1400 from major west coast cities.
The workshop URL is http://icchp-summeruniversity.net/
The purpose of the workshop is to provide hands-on training on modern
technologies and methods for accessing math and science. There are both
student and teacher/transcriber tracks. A suite of workshops will be
offered by the DIV consortium, Design Science, Infty group, and ViewPlus, as
well as by a number of others. DIV topics include:
*Tutorial on Infty Reader,
*Methods for reading and authoring math with ChattyInfty and MS
Word/MathType,
*Embossing MS Word documents containing math and tables using the Tiger
Software Suite,
*Converting MS Word documents to web files and accessing them,
*Using the IVEO accessible graphics system.
Other topics include:
*Tutorial on the R statistics application,
*Tutorial on the Stata statistics application,
*Beginner and intermediate Latex tutorials,
*Tutorial on the Octave computational math system,
*Tutorial on Jaws Logger Pro and associated laboratory equipment,
*Tutorial on TexNic
*Tutorial on NuPAD
*Ttechniques for reading tactile graphs
*Tutorial on the Lambda system for reading and authoring math.
Hope to see some of you BlindMath listers there.
