Hi Ryan,
R is used lots in industry, but I know firsthand how insistent instructors
can be on their students using the software of choice rather than anything
accessible. It's unfortunate, but not impossible.
I don't know anything about JMP, but I'll tell you how I handled a similar
situation with software I wasn't certain about. I apologize if anything I
say here is elementary for you.
Unfortunately, the only way to truly find out how accessible a package is is
to contact the developer directly. More unfortunately, these developers
usually have no idea. Typically, given the graphical nature of most software
packages for math and science, you'll want to ask if the application can be
accessed through a command line mode. Even R is best used this way. If it
can, you can safely go ahead and install the software, with support from the
developer about how best to use the command line. Especially if you're new
to this setup as I still am.
If command line isn't available for your operating system, you may need to
install another OS, or perhaps even a virtual machine. Keep in touch with
the developer to make sure you have the setup you can use that will optimize
the software's performance.
I realize this isn't the answer you may want, but give it a go and write
again if you run into trouble.
Best wishes,
Sarah

Subject: [Blindmath] JMP accessibility
Hello all,
One of my classes is using JMP statistical software this semester.
I wonder if anyone has used it before and if anyone knows generally how
accessible it is. I've never personally used it before. If anyone knows of
good resources for the blind and JMP I'd also appreciate if you'd send any
of those in. I realize that most or all that can be done in JMP can be done
with software such as R, but I'm really hoping to be able to do as much as
possible in all of the differing software packages most commonly used by
universities and in industry. Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Ryan
