[Blindmath] Goodwill Boycott

Ken Perry kperry at blinksoft.com

You might want to talk to a few blind folks in your field before you decide
you're going to get sub minimal wage. Math is not a field where they pay
you 8 to 10 bucks an hour and hope your happy. If your good at what you do
and you get in the door your wages will fit your skills.

To all offended parties:

I apologize for assuming that a list on nfbnet.org was an NFB list. I will
not perpetuate the efforts of the National Federation of the Blind to
achieve fair wages for workers with disabilities on this list any longer.

I thought it was relevant to the list since I am hoping to work in a
mathematically-related field (since I just earned my BA in Mathematics in
May), am blind, and could be offered subminimum wage employment. On second
thought, I can see that employment opportunities are not relevant to all of
us. I suppose I was being egotistical in assuming that a significant
population of others on the list would be like me in that sense.

I do sincerely value the benefit that I have received from my participation
on this list and regret that I have offended so many.

Yours in Federationism,

Justin Salisbury

is this really on topic for a mathematics related list?

Note: I'm hoping the answer, or at least my perception of it, is rather
obvious.

Thanks

Justin

I know yu are a smart kid, and you have contributed a lot to math and
math discussion through the years.
If it wasn't for that, I would urge the list moderator to ban you instantly.
This kind of message does not belong on this list, it seems even
insulting to some numbers of this list. Ihave nothing to do with this,
and it feels like spam of the very worst kind in the context of the
Blindmath mailinglist, a list that discusses math, free from national
or political affilliations, something that is extremely important to
me.

Please keep math and politics separate in future and do not post these
types of messags to this list again, unless you can justify the
message with some relevance to math or stem accessibility.
Thanks

Back off people! It may have been off topic but there's no reason to get you
for up about it. I shall say no more on the subject.

Birkir,

We do try to keep political messages to a minimum on this and some other
NFBNET lists. As you know, there are occasional announcements sent
through all lists, so the line is blurred sometimes for people who are on
other lists and who see announcements on multiple lists.

Justin, unlike many of our other lists on NFBNET, this list does not
represent a NFB division as is also true for some of the arts lists.
Therefore, please
leave it to
Dave Andrews to decide when an announcement may be sent to this list.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson,
List Moderator

Thank you, Dasha Radford. I figure it was sent out to all the NFB lists.
Justin's a good guy. Cut him some slack.
