Anna,

The key to selecting data points on a chart without a mouse may lie 
in the macro recorder.

If you can record someone clicking on a data point with the macro 
recorder on, then view the resulting macro, it should be a concise 
readable line or several of Visual Basic.

For example (I'm just free-wheeling here):

Chart1.Select.Cell("a1").Properties

I haven't been fully down this road myself yet but that's the 
direction I was taking when needing to interact with visual charts.
