[BlindMath] Open Source Braille Translators

Steve Jacobson steve.jacobson at visi.com

Tolga and others,

While you are certainly correct about LIBLOUIS being an open source braille
translation project, it isn't very helpful for braille translation by itself
without additional programming. The Braille Blaster project has sort of
grown out of LIBLOUIS, though, and uses LIBLOUIS to a large degree. It is
well worth checking out, and Braille Blaster is trying very hard to meet
some mathematical needs as well. As Larry Skutchan mentioned earlier on
this list, more information can be retrieved at

http://www.brailleblaster.org

and there is a download there. The product is still being developed but it
is quite stable. Braille Blaster is a full-featured translator that allows
text to be brought in and styles applied to get the formatting one needs.
It is different than some translators that allow the insertion of commands
and codes but reflects a more modern approach to the process.

There is still some work being done to make it easier to run certain parts
of LIBLOUIS under Windows that mithe allow for running a process to
translate a file. Watching that list as Tolga suggests is not a bad idea.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

saaqib,

yes, their is an open braille translation software for jaws,

Liblouis is used for both jaws and NVDA to translate braille to a
braille display, E.G. The Focus 40 braille display uses liblouis 3.1.3
as far as I know. their is a liblouis mailing list, the link is:

here is the website for you to subscribe to liblouis:
http://www.freelists.org/list/liblouis-liblouisxml
Enter your email address and press the Go button. You should receive
an email with more information once you're subscribed. It will mean
that you will receive emails from other subscribers to the mailing
list, which includes the liblouis developers, and you can post your
own email to everyone.

just enter your email address and hhit the go button and then you can
also post your own email to everyone.
Hope This Helps,
Regards,
Tolga.
