Don’t know whether anyone has time to look through these specifications, but input would be appreciated by the Worldwide Web Consortium. If these standards get any traction, they could provide more accessibility to graphical information on the web.

Subject: Graphics-ARIA and Graphics-AAM wide review drafts available

The Accessible Rich Internet Applications Working Group has published Working Drafts of:

  *   WAI-ARIA Graphics Module 1.0: http://www.w3.org/TR/graphics-aria-1.0/
  * Graphics Accessibility API Mappings: http://www.w3.org/TR/graphics-aam-1.0/

The WAI-ARIA Graphics Module defines core roles specific to web graphics that allow an author to express the logical structure of the graphic to assistive technologies. Graphics Accessibility API Mappings defines how user agents map roles in this module to the features of accessibility APIs. When supported by user agents, these features allow authors to create accessible rich internet applications, including charts, graphs, and other drawings. These two specifications provide general tools for graphics accessibility and are referenced by the SVG Accessibility API Mappings, which is now being developed by the SVG Working Group.

The ARIA Working Group believes feature development for the 1.0 versions of these specifications is complete. These drafts are published for wide review to solicit final comments before advancing these specifications to Candidate Recommendation.

Comments are requested by 2 March 2018. To comment, please file issues in the issue tracker for the appropriate specification:

  *   Graphics-ARIA: https://github.com/w3c/graphics-aria/issues/new
  *   Graphics-AAM: https://github.com/w3c/graphics-aam/issues/new
