[BlindMath] Using Matlab with Jaws

Hello Duncan,

I recommend using script files of your Matlab code. They can be processed by Matlab using a command line or batch file approach. That is, I would shy away from interacting with the desktop environment; I admit to not needing to do so for the past five years though, so I hope others have more recent experiences to share with both of us.

The script files are just plain text; edit them using your editor of choice.

The output files used to always be text too. The command to write output to a file is diary on.

In addition to not using the desktop version for many years, I also make use of Octave to run Matlab scripts (Octave is free, Matlab is not), partly because the way I've integrated such scripts into other work flows is easier with Octave than Matlab.

My only real hiccup running Octave for Matlab scripts is the integration of all the add-on libraries that Matlab has, and Octave did not have at the time. That might have changed with numerous updates to Octave over the last five years.

HTH
Jonathan

Subject: [BlindMath] Using Matlab with Jaws

Hello, Please can anyone advise on how to use Matlab with Jaws?

I've just started my new job, and need to use Matlab to run and develop Matlab code; I've no choice about Matlab, its what the rest of the research group uses.

1] can I use Matlab with Jaws, or do I need to use NVDA?

2] Can I run the desktop version of Matlab with a screen reader, or do I need to use "Matlab Online?"

3] Any general advice about using Matlab? I've read the instructions that Mathworks have produced regarding using "Matlab Online" with a screen reader, but what I read doesn't seem to correspond with what I'm experiencing.

Thanks, Duncan
