[BlindMath] Affordable and accessible calculator for CS student

There is definitely a learning curve for any calculator. As a teacher, I
would never give a new calculator to any student just prior to an exam. A
teacher's standard advice is that the student should have been using the
calculator on a daily basis throughout the school year if the exam is at
the end of the school year covering all the material for the school year.
Of course, the student can take 6 week, 9 week, or semester exams using
the calculator, assuming they have been using the calculator on the
covered material. Bottom Line: The use of the calculator needs to be
integrated with the learning of the math and not just used at "exam time".
Best wishes,
Susan

It is a great calculator, but there is a learning curve. The student
would have to learn to use it weeks before taking an exam!

I don't know what would be considered affordable but the best on the
market is the Orion TI-84 and it can be purchased direct from Orbit or
from LS&S and I think there are other places. In fact here is an
Independent living aids page for it:

I have a contact who is looking for an affordable and accessible
calculator for a Computer Science undergraduate student. The device must
be standalone because the school does not allow use of a phone or computer
during exams.
I am happy to get suggestions for such devices, and where they could be
purchased.
Best,
DON WINIECKI
