Back to me: How about giving each paragraph a "Copy" button which provides
the source for the paragraph, perhaps together with some further
information. This might provide the roundtripping that Jonathan requires.

I think that once we have defined standard LaTeX mathematics this would
work for math formulas. And if we even have standard markdown, it would
work for the rest of the page.

Microsoft Word seems to provide a useful copy and paste between different
documents, at least if governed by the same stylesheet / template. Surely
conformant HTML can provide a similar functionality.
