[BlindRUG] R graphing

Hello Amy,,

Some work has gone on behind the scenes today to get one or two steps closer to having BrailleR back on CRAN. I can't tell you though how long it will take for the CRAN people to do their thing though.

So, here is the long-winded way.
You need to run each of these three commands in this order by copying and pasting them one by one into R. There will be a delay while things happen because they all reach out to the internet even if only briefly.

chooseCRANmirror(ind=1)
install.packages("remotes")
remotes::install_github("ajrgodfrey/BrailleR")

This is only one more step than is needed when BrailleR gets back on CRAN. Watch that the joys of email processing hasn't turned the quote marks into anything fancy. There are a mix of upper and lower case letters in the first line, but they should all start with a lower case letter.

In terms of making graphs, I totally recommend using the ggplot2 package for making even the simplest of graphs. There will be plenty of opportunities for copying and pasting code that looks a lot longer than old-fashioned commands, but the benefits are worth it. Automatic descriptions are #1 among them. The easiest way to get that package and a whole heap of thers you will want is to also run

install.packages("tidyverse")

Good luck,
Jonathan

Subject: [BlindRUG] R graphing

Hey All,

I know BrailleR can do graphing and accessible descriptions. I have not found a link for BrailleR that works today where I can actually download it. Can someone please send me that? The reason I ask is that in my class we are graphing histograms and boxplots and I would like a way to get descriptions of what I am graphing. Thank you. Also please keep in mind that I am still a relatively new R user just doing everything from notes and not really fluent at all. I am learning R because I want to but also of necesity because SPSS, which the class is using, is not accessible for me. So the quickest and simplest "quick and dirty" answer would be the best.
