Jewel,
    As I write this message, I am smoking 20 lbs. of pork shoulder for an "End of Summer" party at my house! Tomorrow I have 20 lbs. of chicken to smoke! That said, I also make candy during the holidays. I have a talking thermometer now, but it is only a meat thermometer. Although it displays the temperature on its screen, it only speaks the "doneness" levels, e.g., rare, medium rare, medium, etc., not the actual temperature. Furthermore, it is only a meat thermometer and is useless for making candies. Since I make several different types of candies, I need a thermometer that will read up to the "brown liquid" stage (338 degrees).
    My questions are, "Where did you get your talking thermometer? Have you received it yet? Does it have a meat probe with a wire so that the thermometer can be external to the oven/grill while in use? Does it have a clip for the side of a pot? Will it speak the temp spontaneously so that you don't need to touch the unit while stirring? How much did you pay for it??"
    If you can answer my questions at your convenience, I would greatly appreciate that! Also, if you have a testimonial you can share, I would like that, too!
