Well, David, if a blind person needs help getting toa flight or getting on a plane, I hope he's got the sense enough to ask for it.  IF not, I hope he's got the snese enough to politely refuse it.  IS that your point?

I am pleased that you take it because you want to. Having been one of those who fought to be able to board with all the other passengers, I would resist the idea that I must accept help, even when it is inconvenient.

I have observed blind individuals who refused assistance from the flight crew when boarding and they held everyone else up while fumbling around. 
This is a real issue that blind individuals should take into consideration. 
I have vision, however, I always allow a member of the flight crew to assist me in locating my seat quickly.  If you are a frequent business flier, then you know time is money!!
